The honest comparison
Why not just post it?
You can put a rod holdall through a parcel network. Plenty of people have. Here’s what actually happens to it, and what happens instead when it goes in our van.
A parcel courier
- Your holdall is handled by six different people and passed through four depots.
- Rods travel in a cage with whatever else is going that day, under whatever gets stacked on top.
- Compensation is worked out by weight, not by what your gear actually cost you.
- “Three to five working days” is not a date you can plan a session around.
- Nobody you can ring has ever actually seen your kit.

Every trip has a date, a destination and a set number of slots. Book the one that fits your session and pay a deposit to hold it.

We collect from your door
Anywhere on the UK mainland. We give you a collection window before the run and load the van ourselves, so we know exactly how your gear is packed.

It travels with tackle only
No pallets, no general freight, no depot transfers. The only other things in the van are other anglers’ kit heading to the same water.

It’s on the bank when you arrive
You travel out light — hand luggage and a rod bag if you want one. Your gear is at the water for the start of your session, and comes home the same way.

The difference it makes
Travel light. Fish properly.
Right now, an airline baggage allowance decides what you take. Two rods instead of four. A borrowed sleeping bag instead of your bedchair. No bait boat, no barrow, no cool box — and a rod tip that may or may not survive the hold.
Tackle Taxi takes that decision away. Pack the way you’d pack for a UK session — the whole setup, the spare rod you always wish you’d brought — and send it by road while you fly out with a carry-on.

What goes in
What we carry
If it’s fishing kit and a ferry operator will take it, it goes in the van. There’s no weight band and no size class — a slot is a slot.
- Rods, holdalls and quivers
- Bivvies, brollies and overwraps
- Bedchairs and sleep systems
- Bait boats and batteries
- Barrows, trolleys and unhooking mats
- Cool boxes and sealed or frozen bait
- Cameras, drones and cooking gear
- Clothing, waders and personal luggage
What we can’t take: livebait, fuel, gas cylinders, and anything else a ferry operator won’t accept. If you’re not sure about something, ask before you book rather than on collection day.

Do I have to travel with my gear?
No — that’s the whole point. Your tackle goes by road in the van and you travel however suits you, usually by air with hand luggage. We collect before the trip and your kit is at the water for the start of your session.
Where in the UK do you collect from?
Anywhere on the UK mainland. The collection run is planned around the departure date, and we confirm a collection window with you a few days beforehand.
How far ahead should I book?
As early as you can. Each departure has a fixed number of slots, allocated in booking order, and the popular dates fill months ahead. If a trip shows as available on the site, it still has space.
What does it cost?
Each departure is priced per slot and the price is shown on the trip itself — it varies with distance and time on the road. You pay a deposit online to reserve your slot, and the balance before we set off.
What about paperwork at the border?
We’ll tell you exactly what’s needed for your gear well before your departure date, and what — if anything — you need to give us. You won’t be working it out at the port.
Can I send bait?
Sealed or frozen bait, yes. No livebait, no fuel and no gas cylinders. If you’re unsure whether something is allowed, ask us before you book.
